shutterbug70 Posted July 16, 2020 Share #1 Posted July 16, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I use a M3 with a 50mm rigid Summicron almost exclusively. I'd like to understand how close an M10 setup with 1.25 magnifier feels to this current setup. Thanks! Advertisement Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Hi shutterbug70, Take a look here M10 with 1.25 magnifier compared to M3 for 50mm. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
shutterbug70 Posted July 16, 2020 Author Share #2 Posted July 16, 2020 I should add that I like to keep both eyes open on the M3.
a.noctilux Posted July 16, 2020 Share #3 Posted July 16, 2020 (edited) Welcome here Shutterbug70 ... as simple as 0.73 x 1.25 = 0.9125 😉. some differences though : - M10 "50" frame lines less visible with "75" inside comparing to the nice "bold" lines in M3 that I appreciate - I've tried that when I newly have the M10 needing to add 12 to 14mm adapter 24001 which accept magnifier 1.25x the contrast drop of M10 nice VF and narrower/shorter eye relief were more than I accepted, so now I don't use the set-up anymore - never (or always ...different way) use both eyes open with my M3, so I have no comment as left eye user ... as side note, when I need the best of viewfinder without any disturbance, I can use one of my SBOOI even with M3 😇. SteveYork Posted July 16, 2020 Share #4 Posted July 16, 2020 Magnifiers push you eye back from a camera. So a 0.72 + magnifier will have slightly less eye relief then a SS M3. Never used a dual stroke, and I know they have even more constricted eye relief. Plus, when Leica added the 28mm frame line, it squeezed all the other frame lines. I assume the same is true on digital. At least of film cameras, the 50mm frames on an M6, for example, are more like 60mm. Long way of saying the M3, M2, M4 frame liens tend to be a bit more accurate. At least that's my experience on film cameras.
shutterbug70 Posted July 17, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted July 17, 2020 Thanks for the replies. I recently got the 1.25X magnifier and tried it on the M3, so I have feel for the push-back from the camera I have a silver SBOOI and the view is great but I will need practice zone focussing quickly and accurate close range composition. I wonder if I should get either a (used) 1. 0.68x less expensive body and use SBOOI all the time OR 2. M10 with rangefinder and 1.25X magnifier
shutterbug70 Posted August 16, 2020 Author Share #6 Posted August 16, 2020 I have M10 + adapter + 1.25x magnifier and it does work well. Viewfinder not as clean, magnifier puts me back compared to M3 but hey, I wanted to be digital, so it seems workable so far.
