boilerdoc Posted August 15, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been trying to reach Jim re: a Leica filter retaining ring for my WATE adapter. I have had no response from him for ~ 2 weeks now. Anyone here know something I don't? He's usually very prompt and helpful. Little worried about this. I have an adapter and Leica 46 IR filter that I can't use ($250)! Thanks.......... Steve
Advertisement Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Hi boilerdoc, Take a look here Milich adapter?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wparsonsgisnet Posted August 15, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 15, 2007 I've been trying to reach Jim ... He often travels; hang in there.
gesper Posted August 15, 2007 Share #3 Posted August 15, 2007 He has been extremely busy lately, but will eventually respond I am sure. I would send him a followup email in case you are lost in his Inbox.
canlogic Posted August 15, 2007 Share #4 Posted August 15, 2007 I have been in touch with him late last week as I bought an adapter for my CV15. Had an email from him that it would ship either that day or the next.
pekem Posted August 15, 2007 Share #5 Posted August 15, 2007 I did receive information from him the other day and his response time was very quick. I would guess, as already suggested, that he is away at present. However, I would be interested to learn why Milch in the first place? Is it the case that Leica do not offer a way of mounting a filter on the WATE? I have both the WATE and a 49mm IR?UV filter but can't see a way of marrying the two. Leica's web site makes mention of both the filter and an adaptor but no item number.
marknorton Posted August 15, 2007 Share #6 Posted August 15, 2007 Wide angles need large filters placed close to the front lens element so that they don't vignette and Leica sensibly took the view when the lens was designed that they would keep it small - for when a filter was not required - and supply a filter adapter - effectively a step up ring to 67mm for when it was. What happened of course after that was that a filter became necessary most of the time and the Leica "occasional" filter solution fell apart; inconvenient to mount, no lens cap for when it's in use, the reflection causing holes in the adapter which also let dust in and they finally lost the plot by putting a rubber o-ring at the bottom of the thread to tighten it as you screw the attachment on, an o-ring which will not last very long if you switch attachments frequently. Michael Reichmann fell foul of it when he took the lens to Antarctica. That lead to the brain-storming here which resulted in Jim's filter adapter. Only works on the M8, not on film, but does a great job and only adds a few mm to the length.
stunsworth Posted August 15, 2007 Share #7 Posted August 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) John really needs to work on the communication side of things IMHO. I've placed a couple of orders with him and never received any kind of response about the order without asking directly. No indication that he's received the order, or the payment, or when I can expect despatch or when the order has despatched. I explained when I emailed my latest order that I need the goods for next weekend as I'm going on holiday. I have no idea whether they'll arrive in time or not. marknorton Posted August 15, 2007 Share #8 Posted August 15, 2007 I get the impression that Jim does all this as a favour to us and that in the real world, he's used to going after much bigger fish, so I think patience is needed!
stunsworth Posted August 15, 2007 Share #9 Posted August 15, 2007 Maybe Mark, but if I'm paying $330 for two small pieces of metal I'd at least expect an indication when the goods have shipped.
wparsonsgisnet Posted August 15, 2007 Share #10 Posted August 15, 2007 To lend some perspective here ... the (driver's) seat in my 1993 Jeep Cherokee has collapsed after only 15 years and 80k miles. Jeez, it's a Jeep. I figured it was going to hurt to replace it and looked really hard for a seat from a dead vehicle. The problem turns out to be that junk yards don't think seats are significant items -- and they leave them to sit out in the elements. Therefore, the bottom part usually gets rusted pretty quickly -- meaning for all intents and purposes that they're bustid, too. I called a local Jeep dealer to get a replacement seat. The "good news," he said, was that there were still 20 of these things in Michigan; the "bad news" is $648. This is a seat frame! My mechanic still has to remove the seat parts from my defective seat, fit them to the new frame, and attach the whole thing to the sliding mechanism under the seat. If I'd ordered the entire seat with cushions and the part that bolts to the floor, I'd be in the intensive care ward now. Milich's stuff is really cool and cheap. stunsworth Posted August 15, 2007 Share #11 Posted August 15, 2007 I'm not arguing about the price - yes, they're 3 times the cost of adaptors from Cameraquest, but I understand why. What I'd like is a little more communication with the customer.

papimuzo Posted August 16, 2007 Share #14 Posted August 16, 2007 From my experience, yes, John is not very communicative, BUT I ordered three times several adapters (new ones, Leitz and Leica flanges), and all the orders were at home within 10 days! (I m living in Switzerland). An e-mail and a Paypal transaction were always sufficient: what else? John is making a wonderful work, probably days owing only 24 hours... either he communicates, either he works, not both... we prefer the second option... All the best to all. FMB Posted August 16, 2007 Share #15 Posted August 16, 2007 I've sent two e-mails early this month to buy Filter E-46 adapter for the Wate without any answer. I understand he is doing a favour to us, but please let us buy and, if necessary, we will support the delay. best regards, Francisco.
jlm Posted August 16, 2007 Share #16 Posted August 16, 2007 here is some info: i respond to e-mails; one or two e-mailers however had a spam blocker, which returned my responses two times. (F. Massanet: do you know this?) orders are processed when I receive the paypal notice and shipped within a couple of days if I have stock, which I generally do. right now, the WATE adapters are not quite finished and will start shipping again Monday. Yes, this is not my primary business, but has grown significantly. I really don't have the time to reply with order status, but if you are hell bent to know, as I said, i do respond to e-mails. If you have a paypal confirmation, that should indicate I received your order. If you have some sort of deadline, I try to respond if possible, including expedited shipping. Sometimes my products are not immediately available, but I can always have stock again in a week or two (the anodized parts have to go out to another souce for treatment and that will sometimes add a few days to my schedule) the price is what it is to cover what are limited production items. packaging, labeling, responding to e-mails, post office, etc. occupy time and more of that I don't have. a few tips: pleas indicated your NAME, SHIPPING ADDRESS and ORDERED ITEMS on the paypal form. i have had all of the above info missing at times. your nickname is not how your orders are filed, so please use first and last names in all communications. use this e-mail for me: jm@milich.com shipping is via USPS first class, usually takes 3-4 days: domestic is paid by me; International shipping is USPS Global Priority Flat rate, usually takes 8-9 days. I charge a $30 fee for international shipping, $20 to Canada. right now, i have 5, 9, 13.5 adapters, 12mm and 15mm filter/hoods in stock. Monday I will also have the WATE adapters back from the anodizer and ready to ship. if you are sending flanges for coding recesses, I try to run them in batches; it usually takes 3 days or so to turn them around. please do not send lenses. I do not provide the filters themselves. I have had two instances of too-tight LTM8 adapters; if this happens, I will provide a looser fit adapter. I have correspondingly loosened my tolerance of fit to accomodate the odd too tight M8 boilerdoc: I don't think I have seen any e-mails from you since 4/18 stunsworth, T Wright: your orders will ship today ( yesterday we completed another run of LTM8 adapters) stinsworth: I will try to send yours a faster way. thanks for the patience, these little parts are pesky, but seem to work pretty well. I read the forum, so this is not a bad place to air concerns jm
