Langstone Harbour Bridge

Taken from the Hayling Island (Hampshire) side just before sunset, looking out towards the bridge which links the island with the mainland and over the unusual channel foliage.

This is also my first attempt at HDR photography - combining 4 images of different exposure compensation. Does it work?

Louis,

I'm not a great fan of HDR images - they can look truly terrible. BUT I think yours does work. I like the way the image still looks restrained and fairly natural.

Louis ~ This is very nice, beautiful light, natural colours and it just plain works. I too am not a fan of so called 'HDR', most look like a failed Blue Peter project!

You also managed to make somewhere in the Pompey area look romantic - no mean feat in itself

Guys, thanks for the constructive comments. I figured HDR might be the way to go as I was trying to give the foreground as much detail as possible in the face of strong backlight. It is on ocassions like this that I realise what a great investment my Manfrotto tripod with ball head is.

'Sunafan' - it is very much 'old' Hampshire. Just in front of the road bridge is a causeway which links the island with the mainland at Langstone at very low tides and it dates back to Roman times.

Andy, lol, but there are some excellent subjects around and in Pompey (I may be confusing you with someone else but are you ex-RN?). BTW, the M6 is proving to be worth every penny of its investment, I've got some excellent shots of 16th and 17th century 'old' Portsmouth buildings which I'll no doubt post at some point.

What is HDR? This is an excellent resource which contains some great examples of HDR photography (I have a feeling I may have found this link in a previous post here in the forum but can't remember).

Louis ~ guilty! There are two camps in the RN, Portsmouth ships company's and Plymouth (Guzz) ships company's and intense rivalry - remember the RN Field Gun competition at Earls Court? I was a Guzz rating.

I did have many a romantic evening in Portsmouth, on Portsdown Hill with a peroxide blonde and a fish supper..... heady days :o
