One of the most iconic & highly regarded sports racing cars of the post war period, this particular D24, one of two known survivo9rs of this model, debuted at the  Sebring 24 hours, driven by Juan Manuel Fangio, and then went on to a three consecutive-race win spree including the Targa Florio, and the Oporto GP in Portugal. At the start of the '55 season, when bankruptcy loomed, Lancia disbanded their racing team, selling their GP cars to Ferrari for a nominal sum, and gifted this car to Juan Peron of Argentina for use by the national team.

Thank you, Stuart. Found a few more of this very rare and highly succesful sports racing Lancia. Serial number 005, it is one of a total of 6 D24s produced in '53 & '54, and is one of only two D24 surviving, with the other one in the Lancia museum, but is the only example still drivable. Won the Targa Florio in the hands of Piero Taruffi, and the Oporto GP with Luigi Villorese.

3.2 liter front-mounted, all alloy V-6, inboard drum brakes all around, steel tubing space frame, independent front suspension with De Dion rear axle, and alloy body....large, light & strong.

The view from the rear. Note the slot below the license plate, an indication of the beginning of awarness that the sleek, nicely rounded & tucked-under derriere acted like an air scoop and caused drag and lift at the rear, resulting in instability at high speeds ( clocked at about 165 +mph at the Madonie finishing straight at the Targa ).

A sparse and minimalist workspace - just the very basics, because you really had to pay attention to keeping the thing on the road in the type of races this car was designed & used for.
