Schittra Posted June 23, 2020 Share #1 Posted June 23, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello My local Leica shop just called me.. he said he has Thambar. I searched and looked at the lens.. quite interesting. Any friend here using this lens? The photo look nice.. it's not the lens that I will use a lot (if I get it) but very interesting. Any experience to share is very welcome.

darylgo Posted June 24, 2020 Share #5 Posted June 24, 2020 New or old version? The newer lens is an M lens, 49mm filter, coated, very smooth focus with an aperture ring that is non clicked buttery smooth. Old version is 48mm filter, non coated optics, screw mount. Shooting the new version it can be used wide open for the glow that is thambar, slightly stopped down for less glow or put at f6.3 for a remarkably sharp lens. I don’t have the old version but would guess that it glows slightly more with non coated optics and will be less contrasty overall. It’s a fun lens, small and light, the resulting pictures can be quite creative on subjects that are high contrast and difficult to handle otherwise.
LocalHero1953 Posted June 24, 2020 Share #6 Posted June 24, 2020 I have the new version. It's a good lens to use in the right circumstances. And best not used in a way that maximises the effects it is capable of! Traditionally it is an alternative soft focus portrait lens, but on the thread referenced above some have used it effectively for landscapes.

On the SL it is really cool. You can play with the aperture ring and judge on the effect in the EVF. A visual delight in it´s own right.
