hi all

I followed the instructions to the letter and since click do the initial options, the back screen has been black and the top LCD is on. It has been going about 2 hours? Can anyone else advise on how long it took them? if there is a problem, not sure whether to interrupt it?

thanks in advance,

richard

If it has been black for two hours it will be so until the battery runs down which will switch off the camera anyway. Pull the battery, replace with a fully recharged one, download the software again, use a freshly;y formatted card, put the file on the card, switch on the camera whilst praying that it will restart and do the rest of the procedure again.
Make sure that you did not misread anything.

It only took a few minutes to install on my camera. Was the bottom red LED flashing whilst this was going on?

Had you locked your SD card after downloading the firmware file on to it? I haven't the faintest idea whether this makes any difference, but mine was not locked,  just in case the camera wanted to write some information on to it to pick up later, if you see what I mean. Just a thought.

thanks all. In the end i took the battery out and put a fresh one in and everything seems to be working (it hasn't updated the firmware but it had copied the settings onto the card  so there was an extra file there).

I'm really unsure why it went wrong but am hesitant to try again as it doesn't sound like there is that much change (can't see myself using the 187mb files!)

thanks all for your help,

bw

It had been a saga. Had similar experience where screen was black after restart for a long time and didn’t seem to restart normally. Battery fully charged.

After restart, black screen returned again and sat idle. Turned camera off and pulled SD card out to insert into computer which was not recognized and could not be formatted. Tried both Windows and Mac laptops and Windows couldn’t reformat as card was in “raw” format; finally managed to have card formatted in Mac.

Placed card in camera and camera showed card was not formatted so had card reformatted and camera seems to be operational.
