Hi; I'm travelling in Himachal Pradesh at the moment and my beloved camera, which was working perfectly, is now "stuck" on a black, static-filled LCD screen (which is also what I see when I look through the viewfinder).

I've turned it on and off, removed and reinserted the batery, removed and reinserted the memory card, etc. but nothing has worked. I also reset everything via the setup menu and checked that all motion, video etc. has been switched off.

It's extremely wet here (monsoon et al); could that be a problem? I'm at an utter loss. Thanks so much in advance for any help!

Unusual and sad first post.

Your symptoms are the same as mine when my beloved LC1 failed. The problem is the sensor as has been discussed here recently. I had mine repaired eventually by Panasonic UK fortunately free of charge. Others here have had their displays showing a pink tinge.

Leica will replace your sensor free of charge, I hope you have a spare camera with you.

Well it is of course tragical that your DL2 dies just during a trip. The sensor chip of my camera stopped working also during a travel, though not so far from home...

There is no more to say that you should send your camera to the customer service, they will fix the problem.

Best regards, Peter.

Leslee, welcome to the forum, sorry to read of your D2 delima.

Please try again, removing the battery, this time for an overnight period. Then re-try it the next morning.

You may not be aware, there is a known D2 sensor failing issue that is well documented on this forum. I know it doesn't help you immediately.

However it does give you some peace of mind that it may be repaired under an extended warranty offered by Leica and published on their website:

<http://www.leica-camera.co.uk/news/news/1/3898.html>

I'm not sure if you have a backup camera. I bought a D-lux2 (aka Panasonic LX1) which was a suitable backup camera to my D2 (which also failed and was repaired under the above extended warranty).

Hope things work out for you on your travels. I know the feeling you are going through as the same happened to me 2 weeks before a recent family trip to Tokyo, Paris and London, so I had to make an urgent D3 / L1 purchase in haste......
