wlaidlaw Posted June 12, 2020 Share #1  Posted June 12, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone tried the Nissin built SF60 flash with either the R8 or R9 cameras. I am fairly optimistic it should couple TTL as the Nissin flashes (certainly the SF40) claim to emulate the SCA 3502 protocol, which is what the R8 and R9 use for flash communication. The SF40 seemed to work OK with my R9 but I would have to admit to not having done any extensive testing, so I am hopeful the more powerful SF60 will be similar. My SF58D, which I never terribly warmed to but did end up using a lot, has a cracked mounting foot. Given how flimsy and wobbly the foot is together with the extensive wear on mine, I am surprised it has lasted as long as it has. The lovely folks at Intro 2020 think they have a bottom casing/foot off a Nikon 58AF flash they have cannibalised for parts, which they think is an exact fit for the SF58, even to the pin layout. They are sending me this FOC. I will have to brush up on my soldering skills to do the changeover but as I have an SF60 arriving tomorrow, if the SF58 is dead, no great loss. I always disliked the multiple button pushes to turn the power up or down or change any other parameter. The SF40 with its rotative controls is far easier. Wilson

wlaidlaw Posted June 15, 2020 Author Share #2  Posted June 15, 2020 The SF60 seems to work OK but it will have to wait until I can get the films processed from my R8 and R9 before I can confirm it for sure. Wilson
