M range of Leica bodies

Would like a run-down on the Leica M range of cameras. Film only, Digital colour,  Digital Mono only. I only have a Leica 111c body and six  39mm screw lenses. Just curious about the capabilities of each M body.

Hello Pablo,

you would be able to use all of your screw mount lenses on every Leica M you choose,

with help of adapters LTM-M .

M would be bigger and heavier, not pockettable anymore.

I use along LTM Leica(s) and "almost" every M now (and in past decades), Barnack Leica(s) give same results as M(s) with same lens, with

same films.

In your shoes, I'd choose first digital M ( M240 family may be good first choice if size 'or whatever' suit you, after that you can "move" to another M film or digital)...

I think why you posted here in "M10" forum 😉.

 

What are your IIIc films favorite ?

Thanks for your reply Arnaud,  Was not looking to buy another Leica camera body for my lenses. I have an adaptor which allows me to use 39mm screw lenses on a Sony Digital camera. I just wondered what each M body was capable of.

1-Check the Leica wiki. 2-There is a copy of the older Leica compendium that is a free download. 3- Very few Leica M film body models have been produced but there are a large number of variations on each, color and nuances, special editions, viewfinder variations. 4- There’s many books written on Leica.

It seems to me that the wiki is very underused.... maybe because of the name - it's possible that many users are unfamiliar with the term - or it's less than prominent position in the menu. More so perhaps because of the way the language selection sub-menu is layed out. If a user clicks on "wiki" nothing happens, it's not very obvious that the language selection is displayed when the cursor hovers the main wiki link.

Also as it's unmaintained it's usefulness has greatly diminished.

Still, there is plenty of good info there!!

I've found the wiki to be exceptionally useful for sorting out the variations in older lenses. I have noticed that it is not up to date with the latest kit, which is a pity.

I had a quick look to see if anyone can edit it, but it seems like registration is limited to Admins.

I've just noticed that the links to forum threads seem to have been fixed. That's good news because for quite a long time they weren't working and I had always found them useful in the past.
