TomB_tx Posted June 7, 2020 Share #4 Posted June 7, 2020 Different card standards: SD (FAT up to 2 GB), SDHC (FAT32 up to 32 GB), SDXC (exFAT up to 2TB), and SDUC (up to 128TB). An SDXC card will fit in an SD or SDHC device but the file system will not be compatible. If you reformat using FAT32 it becomes a 32GB card, the most that FAT32 can address. Although I have not tried this myself I have seen people mention (on the French Leica forum) that they are using 128GB cards formatted as FAT32 but with the full 128GB capacity.... not that I would ever use such cards myself, but it would be good to know the answer once and for all! Jean-Michel Posted June 8, 2020 Share #11 Posted June 8, 2020 32 gb cards work fine in an M9, that provides for recording 685 uncompressed DNG files plus highest quality jpg’s (I save b&w versions in jpg). If you need to make more than 685 images in a session then just buy a second card! I have some 32s but prefer to stay with 8 or 16. I have mainly kept my film days behaviour and don't shoot like there was no tomorrow. 8GB is generally more than enough for me. To be honest the way of shooting with my M9 doesn't really fill up cards or exhaust batteries. I don't do much chimping on the M9. My Q, on the other hand, has 128GB cards and multiple batteries.
