Yes I know another one of these threads.

So after ten years of hasselblad and lf I am returning to Leica.   I have a new to me m3 with a collapsible and around 300 rolls of hp5.  Just bought a scanner - a plustek.  Works fine, or at least I think it does as I am used to wet darkroom printing and scanning is a new world to me.  Anyhow I like the collapsible 50 but only from f5.6.   Wide open is just too muddy.   Am considering a summilux v2 pre Asph or a v5 summicron with a pull out hood.  Budget is around 1500 to 2k.  I want to shoot indoors avail light and have at least 1/60th with the 400 rated around 320.  Will the pre Asph lens at f2 compete with the summicron at f2?  I had a summicron v5 with the pull out hood years ago and remember it was good wide open but the hood was a joke.   Had to use a rubber band to keep it from sliding back in and that worked ok.  Always wanted a summilux as 1.4 would be great if usable and the lens is supposed to be more flare resistant.
Here is a recent pic on the front porch at 5.6 with the collapsible.  This is what I am after indoors.   Maybe I am just unrealistic.  Tools can only do so much.   Sorry if this has been covered in previous posts....I just don’t want to go down the web rabbit hole sifting though all of it.
thx for any replies.   Oh and a quick phone pic of my new toy

As for my experience with both, my Summilux preasph (v2, indeed) is quite similar to Summicron from 2,8 on (on digital... at film times, I frankly don't remember, which probably means that I didn't perceive  difference) : and Summilux is very pleasant to use in interiors, where the problems of direct light on the front lens (generally, the delicate point for Summilux) is easier to manage; personally, I'd go for the Summilux, and so better for film.  The Summilux v2 hasn't the sliding hood of the v3... but its original hood, that can be mounted reversed, is top quality and have never consider this a limitation (btw, my Summicron isn't a v5... so no sliding hood too)

Does your collapsible Summicron require a cleaning?  Mine has a lot of contrast by f/4.

If you want a very fast 50mm with high contrast wide-open, you might consider the new Voigtlander 50mm f/1.2.

If it must be Leitz/Leica, a v4 Summicron would be a great lens.  Same optics, no built-in hood.  I'm searching for one myself.

I used to have Bessa R and Jupiter-8. Back then I didn't know how to push 400 film.

Collapsible on M4-2. Non pushed 400 film.

I had all bunch of Crons and modern f2, f1.5 lenses. But Collapsible is the best 50 lens for bw.
