A week or so ago I started looking at cheaper options to protect my Q. Sure, artisan cases are beautiful, but the price is 10% of the camera, and I'd rather spend the money on a trip to take photos.

So I purchased a "skin" for the camera, as I've done this in the past with a transparent skin on my Leica MP240 Safari to protect the gorgeous green paint, and found it worked well. I have to say, I've very impressed.

The skin is made from a 3M vinyl which is nicely thick. If it was too thin, it would be flimsy and a pain to fit. As this is thicker, it makes life easier fitting it, and also there's some relief to the texture, so it gives the camera body a much grippier surface. The cut is perfect, and there are even holes for the dots allocated to the macro dial and aperture selection etc.

The material used has a slight reflection to the camo design; think of sportswear in car headlights at night, although nowhere near as bright.

I know these skins will be controversial, and indeed there is an absolutely awful carbon fibre option via the same Ebay seller I found this with. However I feel the matte finish suits the camera very well, as I've always disliked the shinier paint of the Q and Q2 over the Q-P. Now I have a matte finish to the camera and it feels much less conspicuous, whilst being subtle in its design, and making the camera much nicer to grip on to overall.

The glue won't leave any residue if the skin is removed by the looks of it as well.

So overall, a quick review of a very cheap product that's made incredibly well.

Could you provide a link to this? I would like to see what the color options are!

NVM, I found it on Ebay, super easy to find!

I wasn’t sure if I’d be breaking rules by sharing. Attempting to share the link now but the forum software stops me.

the eBay UK item number is: 264692213432

Wow!

Found some interesting options when googling this: one place makes leather skins, not for the metal parts, and Arte di mano does as well and the photos look really cool.  Another called Life+Guard does 3M film, but in a very subtle black mat that in the photos looks really cool and for added protection when not using a case.

The leather skin fitted to the camera originally would have to be removed, so you risk destroying the value of the camera with the Arte Di Mano scenario
