md_whittaker Posted May 24, 2020 Share #1 Posted May 24, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Pardon what is hopefully not a dumb question, but I'm new to Leica cameras. Does the Leica M4 require light seals? I recently purchased (and had to return due to a faulty shutter curtain) an M4. What I hadn't noticed in several pictures while I was online shopping was the presence of light seals on the body where the film door/backplate side edges close. Interestingly, the camera I returned (see attached image) has the seals. I have another M4 coming from Schouten Select that should arrive sometime later this week, should light seals be present? Thanks.

250swb Posted May 24, 2020 Share #2 Posted May 24, 2020 (edited) There should only be one light seal on the rear door which is along the top of the rear door set into the body, it can be difficult to spot but it's a strip of spongy rubber. If any other seals have been added they may be because the owner was trying to track down another light leak and didn't know where the seals should be. Either way if they have been added all around the rear door avoid the camera because it implies some other light leak that they can't find.
