How do you name your user profiles?

You can only use 10 characters.

Example for using a tripod and Image Stabilisation OFF and ISO 100.

I use it for landscape.

a) Tripod ISO100 is to long

b) Landscape is good.

Or don't you use profiles?

(b) Landscape is a good example.  I only use profiles to get in the ballpark so to speak, and I'll use common names on different cameras just to get basic settings in a starting place.  Things like ISO, metering and focusing, face detect, stabilization and will change individual settings as needed. Blk&Wht, landscape, portrait, groups, scenic... examples that I tend to use.

Hi,

On the SL you get 4 user profiles.  I wish there were more allowed via firmware update.  Four is not enough for the various types of shooting I do like 1080p, 4K, slomo video, studio tripod MF flash, handheld flash with OIS, sports AFC, etc.  This is how I have done it:

My 4 profiles are self explanatory.  The SL offers custom first letter file naming for each profile.  I use the default "L" for the AFS/Auto ISO profile. "F" for flash, "V" for video and "M" for manual focus with adapted lenses.  This is very useful when sorting files on import.  I know exactly which profile was used for each image/file created.  WB settings per profile are useful too like flash WB vs AWB.  Customize and refine your profiles as you go to match your style.

Mine are named things like “Sports” and “Tripod” and “Strobe” and “General” I try to use similar profiles across multiple cameras. As with others, the profiles get me in the ballpark, but aren’t intended to cover all scenarios described by the name.  Sports may need some tweaks to cover my daughter’s horseback riding, for example (where I know just where a jump is going to be and so can choose a high frame rate with no AF between frames), vs my son’s mountain biking (where the camera must track focus between shots, so medium drive speed is the max).  I don’t try to have multiple “sports” profiles or I would quickly run out of profiles. I assume I will need to adjust some.
