ttriolo Posted August 12, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) One of Guy's 21 laundry list questions presented to Leica at PMA from back in March reared its head again in my case just today. It occurred exactly the same way on an M8 I received just three days ago and which has been firmware upgraded to 1.107. Question: Have had one instance of a card with only three images on it reading as 'full' when placed back in the camera, and upon trying to format it it basically stuck... red light blinking for 10 minutes until I had to take the battery out (power button wouldn't power it off). That has only happened once so far. Leica's response: This is not a known issue. Not reproducible failures are always very difficult to detect. Has anyone else experienced this same glitch recently? Shootist Posted August 12, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 12, 2007 Yes I did with a Sandisk Extreme 2 1GB card. I normally never use that card for images, only for firmware updates. I have not had any problems with Lexar Pro 133x 2GB cards.
Kent10D Posted August 12, 2007 Share #3 Posted August 12, 2007 Yes, exactly as you describe. With a 2G Sandisk Ultra II card. There were 5 or 6 shots on the card. I ended up having to reformat the card on a different camera (a DSLR) before I could use it with the M8 again. I guess it's about to become a "known issue". ttriolo Posted August 12, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted August 12, 2007 My errors also came using a SanDisk card (Ultra II 2GB). Maybe it would make sense to use a card from another manufacturer regardless of the fact that the SanDisk Ultra II is included on Leica's compatible card list on their website. larry Posted August 13, 2007 Share #5 Posted August 13, 2007 Tony, Your card most likely has a problem -- not uncommon for any brand. I've had similar problems with Lexar CF cards and Canon cameras. Larry
carylwithay Posted August 13, 2007 Share #6 Posted August 13, 2007 I too have had this problem with San Disk cards. Other cards do it too but to a lesser degree. Taking out the battery and card and then starting over works sometimes and reformatting in another camera also has helped me. I have a Canon P&S that takes the same card so I am lucky. Let's hope Leica can fix it in the next firmware update. Also when I first turn on the M8, it often shows nothing instead of the images available so I have to take out the battery and card and reinstall them. A pain in the butt, to say the least.
