pmendelson Posted April 30, 2020 Share #1 Posted April 30, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) For those who have had the Leica grip for the SL or SL2 - how useful have you found it to be and did you encounter any surprising pros and cons? For me I think the main pros would be better balance with the 90-280mm and longer battery life with two batteries, but it’s so dang expensive (for the SL2). thanks peter

FlashGordonPhotography Posted April 30, 2020 Share #2 Posted April 30, 2020 I really did not like the grip on the SL. I found it an ergonomic disaster and quite uncomfortable to use. Even with the 90-280 I found I was going to the horizontal position in vertical shooting so I took it off. I tried it once or twice and it now sits in a cupboard. A regretted purchase. My SL bodies have permanently attached RRS base plates. I have not tried the SL2 grip and I probably won’t, but it may be better. I have an RRS plate on the way. pmendelson Posted April 30, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted April 30, 2020 Thank you - just the kind of feedback I was looking for - I think I will give it a pass and just stick with the RRS L-plate.
Jeff S Posted April 30, 2020 Share #4 Posted April 30, 2020 I comfortably hand hold the SL2 and 90-280, with no accessories (and tripod foot removed). It balances well, despite size and weight. An extra battery fits in easily in my pocket. Never tried the grip; no need. Jeff
