Hello everyone. Thank you for accepting me in the forum. I am hoping that someone here can help me with a very perplexing problem that has happened to my Leica DMR.
For reasons beyond my experience the DMR just stopped working.
What  is really weird is the R8 body will turn on. The camera appears to function.
I have cleaned all the contacts several times and made sure it connects  to the R8 Tightly. Yet only the camera turns on.
Has any experienced this themselves? If so what do I need to do to fix this. If I need to send it in for repair can  some here recommend a a trustworthy service. I am considering sending it to KEH repair. They said they would evaluate it, however, I am open to recommendations. Even though there are plenty of digital options, I prefer the DMR for the same reasons I have read  here in this forum. Having a hybrid film /digital System just make so much sense.

Thank and talk soon.

I’m afraid a DMR is not repairable. Mine was the last one to be serviced and that is nearly ten years ago. There are no spare parts and Leica will not accept it for repair

I have seen several come up for sale in the US recently. If you can't part with the DMR, it may be your only other alternative. If you're patient and follow some of the more reliable resellers like Tamarkin (Chicago), Igor Camera (Cleveland), Leica Store (Miami, SoHo, SF) you may come across one.

Might also be worth placing the DMR module in a polythene bag with a pack(s) of silica gel ... seal the polythene bag and place in a warm airing cupboard for 24 hours ... just in case the malfunction is 'damp' related. And clean the contacts again using a proprietary 'switch cleaner' e.g. Servisol Super 10 switch cleaner (applied with a suitable small brush after squirting some into e.g. an egg cup) . Also clean the battery terminals and ensure the battery is fully charged. And maybe try another SD card? And try fitting the DMR to another R8 or R9 ... maybe a friend has one?

Everyone thank you for your advice and useful suggestions. My gut is telling me that the DMR maybe repairable. I’ll test it with a different R8 or R9 and if necessary get a proper diagnosis. One way or another I will report back to this group with  my results. be safe and everyone!

I just don't know if you can find someone to check it out. Try the suggestions from the people here (despite some of the silly handles), engineers and scientists who's understanding of these devices is on the level of experts. If nothing works, don't throw good money after bad.

You can always try if an electronics expert can get it going again, 2000 technology prints may be modular enough for a soldering iron to work.

My DMR has a permanent electronic glitch which occurs following a battery change ... BUT ... the glitch does not occur if the battery is changed with the mode dial in one of the ON positions . You could try inserting your DMR battery with the mode dial in one of the ON positions.

leica has certainly dropped the ball on their digital cameras. they refuse to admit that these products are their achilles heel.

they continue to sweep their problems under the rug, no matter how much we scream about these fatal errors they can not admit failure. always remember never judge a person or government or a company by what they say only by what do.
