Guys i have a leica d lux type 109 and like it very much. For more professional use i have a Nikon D500 with a 24-70 lense. I'm looking for an equivilant Leica to theNikon D500 which can mount different lenses but the Leica range seems massive and complicated. I know i'm being lazy and can probably search for this but what Leica camera is about 24mb megapixels, and has good low light capability and a mount to take different lenses? Is the M mount the way to go or is there a Leica that would fit this requirement? Help please

Welcome, gazbiker,

Consider Leica SL or CL. All specs on the Leica site.

Next, return to this forum and read, selectively, the reviews and discussions.

Then ask specific questions once you have narrowed your choice

That’s an SL. Will replace a Nikon dslr. Will take M lenses with an adapter - i even have a Nikon lens adapter though I dont really use it. Be prepared for price shock. But it’s a lovely handling camera and with the 24-90 lens you may need nothing else.

The Nikon is an APS-C sensor camera so the equivalent in Leica would be the CL, but it's not a DSLR, it's a 'mirrorless' camera with electronic viewfinder.

The SL/SL2 is a full frame sensor mirrorless camera.

Both cameras have their own L mount lenses depending if they're designed for the CL or SL but can be used on both systems (CL lenses on an SL will give a cropped image).

The M is a different system altogether, a manual focus rangefinder camera.

What's the issue with your Nikon though?

Thanks. My Nikon DSLR body knowledge is deficient!

I went from a Nikon D300 to the CL, thought I would also get a D500, that hasn't happened. The original reason for the CL was I had sold my M cameras and had a few Leica lenses. CL has been doing all that the D300. The only down side to the CL is that the zooms are a little slow, though as lenses they are excellent. I now work around the CL. I use a couple of my Nikon lenses with the CL, an 11-16 Tokina and a 105 micro Nikkor. One of the nice things with the CL are the RAW files it produces, like them better than the NEF file from the Nikon.
