A bit battered but running as smooth as ever.

For those interested. The paint wears and chips but is actually surprisingly tough. The dent was from a previous owner though. The baseplate distorts easily where it clips on to the lug on the camera - I've had to use need-nosed pliers to get it working well but its hasn't got a wondrously, smooth, round curve any more. The black covering starts to show grey through it where its handle most (right hand thumb mostly) and the lcd, which I don't protect, has a fair few scratches, but nothing too bad. Its a working camera and apart from using an old toothbrush to remove dust (and a bit of disinfectant on a cloth very recently) it has had no real cleaning other than some mud scraped off it. The sensor always has a bit of dust on it as I change lenses when I need to regardless of conditions. I use only a sensor brush to wipe off dust never liquid. All in all its been a reliable camera despite tens of thousands of exposures.

Nice, I love to see the red dot. This is mine, no dents but a lot of brass. From time to time I’m repainting parts but they easily wear of. Personally I don’t like the black paint, I’d like to see my camera I  good in condition without brass. Maybe I will sent it to Leica one day with the request to change it to the morge substantial silver plating. Or is it possible to order those separate and diy?

I doubt it if for no other reason than because it involves some desoldering and resoldering of the hotshot connections which I suspect Leica would consider beyond DIY.

Here's my 3 in various states from pristine to quite bashed but all are still functioning fine and all have had new sensors.

The most bashed, like it when I bought it, worse now but my go-to camera.

Nice!  I love the worn look of my M9.  I have been hauling it around on my little walks during shutdown here in Canada and the colours and 3D look still amaze.

I also have a Fuji 50r.  Even though I like the Fuji colours a lot for their neutrality, the pics have the same “squished” look as most other cmos cameras, compared to the “airyness” of my M9 photos.  And I quite love the red bias!

Every time I time I think about ditching it, I just... stop and move on!

Actually it is a bit remarkable that the figures on the Summilux are all still readable and white. They tend to fade away easily.

I've noticed that on mine too. Is it a know feature of that lens?

Fresh paintjob. Am I the only one recovering the paint on the brass spots?

Yeah, I would never do that, it will wear again and then it’s really disturbing. I like the wear on my M9 and it makes him more my own, it’s our shared history which shines through the brass. I would freshen up the white figures on the shutter dial though

You’re right, the paintjob was bad. Removed it again.. 😌

When I viewed it in a dealers it wouldn't focus - as in way out of focus - nothing in focus. I bought it on the basis that it would be sent to Leica, serviced and 6-it coded. It was and is now as good as it could be. But I do wonder if it had had a problem and been stored for years which might explain the lack of fading?

I like 'worn' cameras - they have been used ad that is what they are for. My backup body is much cleaner because it hasn't been needed and I rarely use two bodies. I have a very battered and well worn M4 which sadly doesn't get much use either but I know I would regret selling it .....

I just saw a Summilux75 at a store and it also had some figures fading. Was it the Canadian painting habit at that time...?

I would love to see some photos which can better explain the "airy" character you refer to.

Here's my M9 sitting next to one of the screw mount cameras that I have... that 5cm Summar is now on the M9 and I love using that lens too. The M9 shows some brassing on the edges (as I'm sure they pretty much all do) and has taken around 38,000+ shots. Still going strong indeed and it just feels so nice to use.
