charlesphoto99 Posted August 12, 2007 Share #21 Posted August 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Geoff, You are correct, but what I am experiencing is far worse than that sort of error. As I said above, I am no stranger to using RF cameras and know (I thought) when to expect some error and how much, more or less. The M8 is definitely worse in this respect than the M6 or M7 which are both manageable. Yeah, I think Leica blew it with the framelines on the M8. I find my compositions to be much less dynamic than with film Ms. Before i could be assured that if I was purposely cutting something off it would be cut off (in half so to speak). Now it ends up as a full part of the image. Frustrating.
Advertisement Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 Hi charlesphoto99, Take a look here Why are toes cut off?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Alberti Posted August 12, 2007 Share #22 Posted August 12, 2007 Re-Shootist The RF parallax shift is easily followed if you put the camera on a tripod and adjust for distance. You will see the frame moving. Of course the camera adjusts the frame at 2 m differently from 1.3 m or 1 m. Specifically no we are actually using a wider set of framewlines (due to the 1.3 extension) we might see this movement effect more. It also shows that the picture as different were it on that plane. All RF affectionado's do understand this. And just take heed if needed. Shootist you are complaining on Leica M8 RF parallax, but couldn't it be just the above mentioned? With the focus on the dolls head the chair will be off, and specifically the toes are way out. The other way around could happen too. Specificelly if you are using a 28mm. OK Ok, don't shoot me, I did some pictures this morning that have crop problems (Elmar-M at 1 m for instance). But I quickly assess the image and retake. Accuracy should not be to blame, if I see Carstenw's effort. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/31212-frameline-accuracy-comparison.html#post327937
J_Brittenson Posted August 13, 2007 Share #23 Posted August 13, 2007 I focused on the face of the doll, re-composed to include ALL of the chair and ALL of the doll, including the feet, INSIDE the frame lines for the 75mm lens I was using. As you can see the chair is cut off on the left and the feet are cut off on the bottom. Since this was taken in portrait orientation that means the top and left frame lines are outside what the actual lens & sensor capture for this focusing distance, which was about 3-4 feet. This is my experience with the Summicron 75 as well, the framelines are off at the top and left, as if it were incorrectly parallax adjusted. This doesn't happen with my M6. (Or my Mamiya 7 with 150mm lens for that matter.) It's definitely unique to the M8.
Albert4321 Posted August 14, 2007 Share #24 Posted August 14, 2007 As I posted on the other thread, I got my M8 and 50lux last Wed. Took it for a wedding gig on Sat. The frameline is definitely problematic, whether I am new or not. Welcome, dear visitor!
