Hendo Posted April 10, 2020 Share #1 Posted April 10, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) The S1R is said to autofocus down to -6 EV. Is SL2 capable of this? I would guess so due to the almost same sensor...but I can not find any evidence.
Advertisement Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 Hi Hendo, Take a look here SL2 - autofocus sensitivity in low light scenes compared to S1R. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jared Posted April 11, 2020 Share #2 Posted April 11, 2020 As far as I know Leica doesn’t state a minimum brightness for AF to function. Since it is a contrast detect system rather than phase detect that is probably reasonable. It might well be able to handle very low light with a stationary subject and extremely high contrast, but as soon as the contrast starts to go down the amount of light required starts to increase. In general, the AF performance—especially AF-S—should be very similar to that of the Panasonic S1R. They may have different software algorithms and so may not be identical. I believe Panasonic is responsible for AF on both cameras and, as you say, the chips are very similar.
