I just bought a beautiful M4-P with 50mm f2 Summicron and 90mm f2.8 Elmarit. I sold my complete Canon digital setup and tomorrow I pick up my M8! For the rest of my glass, I'm choosing the VC route to make this all financially feasible and am ordering the following: 12mm f5.6 21mm f4 28mm f1.9 35mm f1.7 I had all of these lenses before so I know how good they are. I'm also picking up a 135mm f2.8 (with goggles etc) in exc+ condition tomorrow, so I think I'm going to have a really nice setup. I had a pair of R-D1 bodies a couple of years ago and simply loved the experience. We were in Paris for three weeks and with just the 2 bodies and a small pouch for lenses, I was in heaven compared to our earlier trip with a D1X and heavy glass! I must admit I was elated when I heard about the M8's development and then horrified by the reports of the issues with the earlier cameras. Recently, as I contemplated my change of cameras, I spent much time on Sean's site (as a return subscriber) going over what I consider to be the most comprehensive and balanced reviews of this product. My conclusion, as you may have surmised is that the issues, although real, are being dealt with with both knowledgeable replies and firm(ware) action. Although I've continued to lurk and read the forum (since my earlier posting history with the Digilux and D-LUX 2), it will be a pleasure to be able to feel as if I belong once again. The M8 is seriously addictive and should have dire warnings in big black type on the box. For God's sake, keep off it! I hate to see you messing around with film and scanners." Dear, dear woman! This morning I drove (from Langley, outside Vancouver, BC) down to Kenmore Camera, just north of Seattle and bought two black bodies, grips and 4 extra batteries. At this point, I've charged one set of batteries, downloaded and installed the latest firmware and am going through the manual in complete bliss! Needless to say, the M4-P is going on Craig's List to help offset the second M8 body. Must make time this evening for some abject groveling! And all that was because how good the DMR was... and that was because I got seriously hooked on the R glass.... Yeah, I got it bad, and that ain't good On the other hand, as craziness goes, I do I love selectively shooting a couple of rolls of film at a wedding! And I knew I shouldn't buy the M3... but it was just so lovely to shoot... Ah well. Ooh, that is so tempting. I'm trying to stay all-digital myself, but now that I have accumulated a fair selection of M-compatible glass I keep thinking that one little old film body wouldn't hurt! A roll here and there would be fun. And there are so many resonably-priced old M bodies on the market. And yesterday was supposed to be the BIG day. Alas, the store i wanted to buy it did not have a M8 in stock I did make an order though, some day, hopefully soon...
