Shootist Posted August 10, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 10, 2007 The only flash that ios made to work on the M8 is the Leica SF24D. But that doesn't mean you can't use some other make and model flash. I use both a Nikon SB600 and 800. They work OK for the times I need a flash on the M8.
canlogic Posted August 10, 2007 Share #3 Posted August 10, 2007 I use the Metz 54 MZ-4i and find it works great.

Albert4321 Posted August 11, 2007 Share #5 Posted August 11, 2007 is there a way to trigger the Metz 54 MZ-4i (or any flash) in wireless and maintains m-TTL or some kind of auto-flash?
lars_bergquist Posted August 11, 2007 Share #6 Posted August 11, 2007 It seems not. — While we are waiting for a system flash which has a tilting reflector but is more compact than the Metz Monsters, use any non-system flash on external auto (preferably one with a center contact only, if you are nervous) with a spiralized shoe-to-foot cable. I have two. One is from my old Olympus system, and while it has 'system' contacts, none of these match the Leica system, so only the center contact is operative. The other one is a Nikon SC-17 which fits all Leica contacts (there is a later version of the cable available). I use this with an earlier Metz flash, a 40 MZ-3i. It cannot give me TTL with the M8, as it did with the M6TTL, but it transfers all the rest: ISO, focal length and flash ready signals. With a cable and the M8 you can even bounce flash with the flashgun on manual. Fire a test flash, check the histogram and make the necessary correction of the aperture. This will serve you well for a whole shooting session. Below is an axample. The old man from the Age of Flashpowder

The Leica 24D is for interior/nighttime exterior shots, and the metz is for daylight flash fill.
hdrmd Posted August 11, 2007 Share #8 Posted August 11, 2007 The Metz 44MZ-2 works reasonably well with the M8. The head tilts but does not rotate. It can be used off camera with the Metz SCA3008Am attachment. The pre-flash is annoying but you can work around it. DR
