pridbor Posted April 4, 2020 Share #1 Posted April 4, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Watching YouTube I have noticed a lot of very interesting Macro photos shot with a variety of lenses. I happen to have a R 60mm Macro - Elmarit lens with an adapter (14256) both of which I have virtually never used. After seeing what results people are coming up with I got interested in trying my hand in this field. You will quickly understand that I have no clue as to what this lens is capable of when I ask you to explain to me how to use the green "dot" and the green ratio digits on the lens. I can guess but prefer you gents to clarify this to me. Another question is related to magnification. It seems like my lens will do 1:1 but is that by itself or with the adapter ring installed? If not what resultant ratio will I get with the adapter. I'm sure it's pretty basic stuff so please be kind 🙂 Preben

ramarren Posted April 4, 2020 Share #2 Posted April 4, 2020 (edited) The Macro-Elmarit-R 60mm lens is a superb performer. I use it as a "long normal" lens on Leicaflex SL and Leica R6.2 bodies, or the Leica SL, and as a 90mm equivalent focal length lens on the Leica CL. It performs beautifully in all cases. The focusing mount allows a magnification range up to 1:2 magnification without accessories and achieves the range from 1:2 to 1:1 when the lens is used with the Macro-Adapter-R. The engraved "green" magnification indices on the focusing ring are for when you have fitted the lens to the Macro-Adapter-R. Otherwise, you read out the focusing distance and magnification (at close-up range) using the white (metric) and orange scales. I don't have an instruction manual for the Macro-Elmarit-R 60mm, but I believe the green dot on the aperture ring is to be used when fitting it to the Macro-Adapter-R: align the green dot on the aperture ring to the lens mounting index dot (which sets the aperture to f/22) when fitting the lens to the extension tube. It ensures that the aperture index lever and the auto-diaphragm control lever in the lens and macro adapter engage correctly with the Leica R-mount camera bodies. This is a wonderful lens, have fun exploring with it! G Edited April 4, 2020 by ramarren
pridbor Posted April 4, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted April 4, 2020 (edited) "ramarren" to be candid I didn't quite have it right 🙂 But just the instructions I was hoping for!! BTW I should have asked you if additional "tubes" can be used? I bought some back in the late '70s for my 50mm Summicron, needless to say that it too didn't get much use! (Macro Adapter 3 rings (14158 – 1) (14158 – 2) (14135) ) Thanks from Utah Edited April 4, 2020 by pridbor forgot related topic
ramarren Posted April 5, 2020 Share #4 Posted April 5, 2020 Additional extension tubes can be used if you need to obtain magnification greater than 1:1. Just be sure that you align the green dot as above when you fit them. At some point, depending upon your camera, you'll run out of metering range and will have to calculate exposure manually using extension factors.
