ahl Posted March 30, 2020 Share #1 Posted March 30, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am using an S1R as my backup to my SL2. I cannot get the official sl2 cable release therefore my question is : can I use the cable release from my S1R which has a thinner body with the SL2 with a simple adapter as they both have the same number of contacts. Using the phone app is not the right solution for me because of the small time delay trying to shoot at moving birds in a nest.

ahl Posted March 31, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted March 31, 2020 Thanks for your reply Jeff. I can see the jack plug is a different size ie thinner but I have an audio adapter that could convert the jack plug to the correct size (2.5mm to 3.5mm ).: as the two sockets have the same number of contacts ( TRRS or 4 ) I am loathe to try it if the contacts are wired differently as I would not want to short out the socket on the SL2 causing untold damage. I would gladly buy a Leica release if I could find one
ahl Posted April 6, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted April 6, 2020 I have now the final answer from Leica. I contacted the Mayfair shop who promptly contacted Wetzlar. They then confirmed that the SL2 and S1r releases were indeed wired identically and that it would be safe to use a jack plug adapter. After some further research I discovered that there are 2 standards for adapters OMT for straight audio adapters and CITA for headphones with microphones. I then tried the solution out and can confirm the setup works well with my SL2. Please note it is the simple OMT audio adapter that should be used and you need to make sure it is TRRS ie has 4 contacts. It was gratifying to receive such rapid help from Leica, whose customer service, I have always found to be admirable.
