Fraser Posted March 24, 2020 Share #1 Posted March 24, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I just recently bought an M4 and have been using it for the past month or so without any issues. I have just come back from a walk with my camera and when I have my 35mm lens on the frame lines are sticking when trying to focus, it seems to be better with my 50mm lens but the problem still occurs. To make it clear what I mean is when I'm trying to focus with the 35mm lens the frame lines sometimes stay in the middle and don't move to sort the parallax like they should. Sometimes once i've focused closer in the frame lines will jump/jerk down like they've been stuck and sometimes they just don't move at all. I don't have any camera repair experience and I'm wondering if this is something I can sort myself and if it is common? Thanks a lot for any help. Another note - When I nudge my frame line selector up towards the 50mm position a slight bit then it appears to work better but not perfect.
Advertisement Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Hi Fraser, Take a look here M4 frame lines sticking when focusing issue. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
spydrxx Posted March 24, 2020 Share #2 Posted March 24, 2020 Your recently bought M4 needs a CLA...old age and probably dried lubricants are taking their toll. Get it in the hands of a qualified repaiperson (see list in the Historica section). It's a great camera, so give it the care it needs and it will probably outlast you! 250swb Posted March 24, 2020 Share #4 Posted March 24, 2020 Spend an evening in front of the tv focusing back and forth, see if it loosens up. Obviously it could be dried grease, but it may also be simple lack of use and otherwise good grease may need distributing better.
Fraser Posted March 24, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted March 24, 2020 I'll try that tonight. It seems to be squeaking for the last part of the focus throw from about 2mtrs till the end at infinity and has a slight bit more resistance than the rest of the way round. Strange how's its been ok for the last few weeks but just started playing up just now... cold weather maybe had an effect? I noticed if i take the lens off and push the frame line checker switch to the side then the mechanism at the top where the lens sits moves out a small bit more like its not gone fully into position until i hit the frame line checker switch... must be linked.
