gyoung Posted August 9, 2007 Share #21 Posted August 9, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Pro2Col in Manchester have ceased to trade. Apart form a very small place on a small parade of shops in Ellesmere Port, the nearest E6 processor to the Liverpool / Manchester area is Peak in Sheffield. This is, frankly, a bit of a blow (especially to the poor folk who used to work there), and may make me rethink my future camera strategy. Since I gave up Kodachrome I have been buying Provia direct from Fujifilm Processing Laboratory , at less than £7 a roll including voucher and prepaid mailers its a good price (price is due to go up soon, as much as £2 a roll I hear, so be quick) Processing has been good, and reasonably quick, it was 3-5 days but when the postage charges went up they went over to second class so its now 6-7 days, still much quicker than Kodak. Before I retired part of my 'empire' was a procesing lab for students at an Art and Design college, when we had an E6 line we had a lot of trouble keeping it stable at times when there was a low throughput, I used Kodachrome rather than 'free' E6 processing;-) I'd rather use a busy lab by post than a local soup kitchen with only half a dozen rolls a day. andybarton Posted August 9, 2007 Author Share #22 Posted August 9, 2007 When you had a lab that would process in an hour and a half, and only charge you seven pounds, waiting a week seems like going back to the dark ages...
ron110n Posted August 9, 2007 Share #23 Posted August 9, 2007 waiting a week seems like going back to the dark ages... Congrats, Andy... you only wait for a week, while I can't find time for a week to get to a lab when it's still open. Although I am more than glad to be among the guys who's off in the weekends. Therefore, the lab promised my color negative Monday... you wish. I can be threre Monday 10:30 PM. I'll see them Saturday. For my terrible schedule, mailing anything I personally don't develop is making sense. -Ron
andybarton Posted August 10, 2007 Author Share #24 Posted August 10, 2007 True, Ron, but having a place on the way to a regular destination, with parking outside, that processed your film for a reasonable amount of money (over here) in 90 minutes, was clearly too much of a luxury... andybarton Posted August 10, 2007 Author Share #25 Posted August 10, 2007 Well done Sherlock! dearer than Pro2col at my last visit but quite accessible and in the local economy - they look to be right in the centre of Didsbury - good cheese shop and some nice pubs - Royal Oak etc.. Hope they do a good job for you - will try them next week unless you come back with a horror story! Well I have come back and will scan some tonight. Will let you know. I used their 2 hour service. No issues so far apart form the mental car parking problems.
andybarton Posted August 10, 2007 Author Share #26 Posted August 10, 2007 The slides are nice and clean - no scratches that I can see - and well processed. Welcome, dear visitor! StS Posted August 11, 2007 Share #28 Posted August 11, 2007 Off-topic – I just wonder how much one’s perception is biased by one's personal circumstances. When the czar banned me to Manchester for half a year, my company put me up in 654 Wilmslow Road. Hence in my perception living in UK means having a photo lab in walking distance…
