andybarton Posted August 9, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 9, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Pro2Col in Manchester have ceased to trade. Apart form a very small place on a small parade of shops in Ellesmere Port, the nearest E6 processor to the Liverpool / Manchester area is Peak in Sheffield. This is, frankly, a bit of a blow (especially to the poor folk who used to work there), and may make me rethink my future camera strategy.

frc Posted August 9, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 9, 2007 More and more am I starting to realise how lucky I am having my lab at walking distance. A ten minutes stroll along the river. Although they are a bit more expensive than the other shops in town, I do buy all my films and printing paper there. Little help but who knows it's just that tiny bit that makes them survive. cocker Posted August 9, 2007 Share #3 Posted August 9, 2007 Andy - thanks for the news. This is indeed a great shame - as you say not least for the employees who i always found it a pleasure to deal with. I have some exposed E6 that I was about to take in next week. I guess I'll have to send it to Sheffield. In a world where "leaders" bleat on about diversity we see less and less and less of it:mad:
wilfredo Posted August 9, 2007 Share #4 Posted August 9, 2007 It's no different here across the pond. I simply gave up on film after the last two places I took my slide film to stopped processing. It simply became to much of a hassle, driving a distance to get my film processed. Cheers, Wilfredo http://www.BenitezRivera.com

They also sell processing vouchers that you can buy at the time you buy film from them - they are one of the cheapest places I know for films and their stock includes professional emulsions. Rolo Posted August 9, 2007 Share #6 Posted August 9, 2007 Andy ? Are you refering to the one you know? :-) Or, is it because Barton Towers would actually be in Liverpool except for the stream in between? For Manchester photographers there's no need to go as far as Liverpool IMO, we've still got loads of processing houses left . Gray's is good. Stockport Colour Labs is well established. wizard Posted August 9, 2007 Share #8 Posted August 9, 2007 It simply became to much of a hassle, driving a distance to get my film processed. Wilfredo, when I last checked, US mail still existed . So why driving around to get films processed? As a slide film photographer for roughly 35 years now, I have ALWAYS sent my films for processing via mail. Never lost one film. Used different labs over the years, depending on the film maker and whether there was a prepaid voucher included or not, but never encountered any substantial problems. And the processed films come right back to my front door, no need to drive ANY distance. Cheers, Andy
cocker Posted August 9, 2007 Share #9 Posted August 9, 2007 See above Checked out Stockport Colour Lab - don't do E6 - they used to use Pro2col!! They were going to link with another lab but have heard bad reports of their quality so they not sure what they are going to do - not taking in E6 until they have found a reliable partner. I asked him about Peak and he was non-committal - so maybe it was them. Who is the Ellesmere Port place Andy?
andybarton Posted August 9, 2007 Author Share #10 Posted August 9, 2007 It's a local Mum and Dad shop, nearly opposite Morrisons on the Whitby Road, not far from the hospital. Will process in a day if you get there early enough. Costs about nine quid. Stockport Colour Lab were unobtainable when I tried Rolo's number above. AFAIK, there's no one in Liverpool

Rolo Posted August 9, 2007 Share #12 Posted August 9, 2007 D S Colour Labs Ltd - Digital photo printing made easy 720 Wilmslow Rd, Manchester - 0161 445 3481 Andy, Feeling guilty for providing mis-leading info, I found this one and the web site shows a big lis of E6 services. Stockport Colour labs were only recommended to me yesterday, but I can't track them down yet. Maybe they've fallen over to. Fortunately, I only have a few rolls of E6 film and don't generally use it. Just started to build a stock pile of ID11 in 5L packs as outlets for that are becoming thin. Calumet M/cr carry 2 packs for anyone interested. Well done Sherlock! dearer than Pro2col at my last visit but quite accessible and in the local economy - they look to be right in the centre of Didsbury - good cheese shop and some nice pubs - Royal Oak etc.. Hope they do a good job for you - will try them next week unless you come back with a horror story!

Mark Antony Posted August 9, 2007 Share #18 Posted August 9, 2007 I'm quite lucky here in Norwich, I have a lab that does it for about a fiver. I used to own a Lab until a couple of years back (sold out) and actually have thought if business was good enough I would start up a hand-line again. I think the next couple of years will be crucial, I imagine Fuji will keep their postal service going, not sure about kodachrome. I loved my E-6 hand-line no D&D was close for quality.
