i realize i can come across sort of negatively as i learn this new to me camera and discover things i'm not used to. but i've been a beta tester nearly ever since i built the first pc from a kit long ago and my instinct when presented with something new, either hardware or software, is to find the flaws and weak points and to report these back along with any workarounds i've created to those who can decide how much of a priority it is to fix them or whether they can ignore them.

but let me hasten to say that after my bad experiences in the 80s with the leica film system and some m cameras and specifically their rangefinders, i never thought i'd have a german leica again in this lifetime. and yet here a reasonably affordable model pops up which will actually focus, either automatically or manually. so i can pretty well guarantee you that whatever my frustrations with it, you'll have to pry it from my cold, dead fingers!

well, i took about a dozen yesterday and posted some of them including a comparison with an s1 shot from the same angle (but not the same lighting). the cl didn't come out well in the comparison. which means i have work to do to tweak the image settings so i can predict results. until then i'll be shooting more to see what the results of certain settings are on the image than for serious consideration as a meaningful photo. but, until then, here's two of those from yesterday which turned out nearly as i envisioned:

you have to understand that a 35mm (equiv) lens is not the best fit for me living out in a semi rural area where i take my life in my hands if i want to zoom with my feet close to someone else's property. my 'normal' lens for my evening walks is the 70-200 on my s1 and i end up using the 2x tele extender function for most of the shots. so unless i travel somewhere, right now i'm limited to whatever's on the side of the road, on my property, or shooting my cats inside. once it warms up enough i have a dozen places within easy driving distance where the 35mm can be put to good use.

sooner rather than later of course i'll mount my 16-35 and the 70-200 onto the cl and try those on the apc sensor where they'll be approx 24-55 and 100-300. and i can try the 23/2 on the s1 just for comparison purposes. the 70-200 has very good ois on its own. what i envisioned when i bought the cl as a backup to the s1 and carry around camera was taking both cameras on my walks with the 70-200 on the s1 and the 16-35 on the cl so i don't have to change lenses. but for now i want to get the cl with the 23/2 setup to my liking before i add in other variables.

luckily we have a week of good weather and i can get out for about the first time since last november when it started getting too cold. and yes, i know there's folks in germany and sweden and even kansas laughing at me, but i can't tolerate cold and even the 6-7 stops of stabilization on the s1 doesn't counteract the shivering. if i knew spanish i'd have moved 1500 miles south long long ago. :) :)
