mdjchat Posted February 29, 2020 Share #1  Posted February 29, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all, I have a v2 elmarit-r 35mm for my Leicaflex SL2 and one of the metal pins that the lens hood locks onto is missing. Does anyone know if it is possible to have this replaced or where I could buy a replacement? Also can filters only be used on this lens with the lens hood to hold them in place? I assumed it would need a series retaining ring like my 50mm Summicron and have discovered that the series 7 retaining ring doesn't fit.  Thanks for your help, Mat.

wlaidlaw Posted March 3, 2020 Share #3  Posted March 3, 2020 To use a filter, you need the Leitz 14160 series VI filter retaining ring. It is not uncommon to find series VI filters being sold on Fleabay complete with this ring. It sits inside the hood. I have just ordered a S/H B+W Skylight 1A filter from an Italian seller to use with my 35 Elmarit-R series 1 lens, which arrived with 14160 ring on the lens. The only people making a skylight in this filter size nowadays are Heliopan and it is a special order at a mere £140 from the UK agent, as against £12.66 for the S/H B+W one. B+W still list it but have no stock and no word on when or if they will make more. There are plenty of the old Kodak series VI skylight filters for sale at low prices but they are a bit darker than idea (nearer to 1B) and some have gone even darker with age. I have also found in the past, when using series VII and VIII filters on Leica lenses, that the mount rings on Kodak/Wratten filters are sometimes too thick to allow the Leica retaining ring to fully screw home or the hood to mount properly. You may also find S/H Tiffen series 5.5/6/7/8 sized filters for sale. My experiences with them has been mixed and I have had ones which caused a noticeable reduction in resolution (particularly their polarising and ND ones). Wilson
