otto.f Posted February 29, 2020 Share #4  Posted February 29, 2020 (edited) I thought Santa was a catholic word, bit strange for a mosque now and a byzantine Aya formerly. But I see that the Turks see no harm in calling their horeca’s Santa Sophia. Doesn’t feel good for me Edited February 29, 2020 by otto.f
newnew Posted February 29, 2020 Author Share #5  Posted February 29, 2020 This shows the respect for such a cult place and the word Santa " meaning "Heilige" can not be appropriated for just a part of one of the religions of mankind. Its latin name was Sancta Sophia. It has been conserved and maintained for close to 1600 years by whoever ruled the place. It is a place where people join and understand each other versus divisive views which are (unfortunately) a fashion in our times. I strongly suggest you visit it in person to get rid of any discomfort you may feel.
otto.f Posted February 29, 2020 Share #6 Â Posted February 29, 2020 I did visit it more than once and really felt the good sphere there as well as the genius of its architects. I was not at all talking about the mosque itself but about the name other than Hagia Sofia
