since i last replied to this thread, i've gotten rid of the 45mm and bought the 70mm macro. i posted a thread with some shots and as you noted, it is razor sharp on both the cl and my s1. i haven't noted any battery drain on either camera although the cl popped up a msg about it when i first mounted it. in my semi-rural area, it is a very good focal length for walking around and picking off objects across the road. on the s1 i can use it as a 70, a 105, or a 140 which is very useful. i wish it were a little lighter and/or shorter, but the s1 is big enough to balance it better than on the cl where the body is pretty much an appendage to the lens.

i liked the 45mm, but i was never thrilled with it and found it just every so slightly soft, even stopped down. the 70mm seems to have absolutely no flaw in the optics. here's an image i shot using the s1 last night and it's not much as a picture, but the original has incredible detail in the fences and the twigs and the roof. there are some other images on my 70mm thread from a week or so ago.
