Sent my M8 for repair since May 25th -- does it take this long?

I have exhausted my resources. E-mail; phone calls. I finally got a hold of a live human this week, and asked for status on my M8 which I sent to Leica NJ for repair at Solms back in May 21st -- which they received on May 25th, and didn't process into their system until after June 6th, and didn't ship to Germany until June 25th...all this time just sitting there in NJ

So, I ask to other fellow M8 users, if you've had to wait for over two months to have your M8 repaired. I've tried countless times over weeks without having my voicemails returned, and e-mails ignored.

Nobody seems to be responsible for anything -- it's all a mystery. Only update I've received (while I was on the phone) was that "the system" said it was still in Germany, and that they will give me a phone call or send me an e-mail with an explanation as to why it has taken this long, with not one single message giving feedback.

Is there a secret handshake/e-mail/human that I can use to contact at Leica (preferrably in Germany, because NJ doesn't seem to have its act together) that actually knows anything?

I love Leica. I really do. Describing my confidence in Leica NJ, however, right now, would make a sailor blush.

Any constructive, helpful feedback will be highly appreciated. Thank you

My wait was right at 3 months back when the camera first came out. I would say you're probably within a month of having your camera back. Then you can enjoy it.

Unfortunately, although the ultimaten outcome was satistfactory, it took multiple voice mail messages, several e-mails,. before Leica USA ulimately did what they had promised to do. Once it was possible to get in touch with someone, things went smoothly. I just also had a similar experience with trying to find out what happened to my second IR filter, not sent since Jan '07--once I sent an e-mail to Solms, the problem was solved within a couple of days.

For Leica NJ, contact Robert Fisk. He helped, was pleasant and helpful on the phone. Be persistent, and hopefully you will get the problem resolved.

The difficulty appears to be communication, not necessarily service.

Gabriel--

You could have sent the camera direct to Solms. It was your choice to send it through New Jersey. The disadvantage of sending it direct is that you would have had to handle your own shipping and insurance, and the US Customs paperwork before shipping to be sure you could easily get the camera through Customs on the way back.

The advantage of sending it through Allendale is that they handle all the paperwork for you. And, I guess, another advantage is that you can complain that they aren't doing things the way you want. ;)

Most folks on the forum sent through New Jersey; one in particular who didn't complained that Germany didn't do things right after he shipped to Germany the paperwork that Customs told him to keep; we can always fault others.

Your camera is coming, with others. It will be fixed and fine when it comes. All of us want things done yesterday--these cameras and lenses aren't cheap, after all! But we also want them done right, and there are schedules that will be followed.

I'm glad you were able to wait as long as you did to blow off steam. :)

It will soon be here, and it will make you happy. Anticipation just increases the pleasure.
