marcolinger Posted February 22, 2020 Share #2  Posted February 22, 2020 I have mine since 2 months without any similar dammage. I would contact Leica.
hirohhhh Posted February 22, 2020 Share #3 Â Posted February 22, 2020 Ouch this is too bad. I don't have any issues on my 4 years old SL. Maybe a faulty series? I would definitely contact Leica.
Rob L Posted February 22, 2020 Share #4 Â Posted February 22, 2020 Looks to me like you have two different bodies with the same damaged area. You might want to examine your methods of carry or storage? Belt buckle perhaps? 2

Mute-on Posted February 24, 2020 Share #7  Posted February 24, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does your watch buckle just meet the corner of the screen when you support the camera to focus?  The baseplates are unmarked, so it looks like something is contacting the screens in just the right (wrong) place to scuff the edge. Are you other cameras of the same design? A curious mystery that must have an explanation of some sort ....

TheGerman Posted February 25, 2020 Share #12 Â Posted February 25, 2020 My SL2 also already has a spot on the bottom of the camera where the paint is rubbed off. Never dropped, or bumped into anything. My SL was flawless when I traded it in. Definitely not happy about it.

Leica germany answer "The described fault is not normal and actually the first complaint we received since the Leica SL2 has been released. According to technician, this can only happen if the device has been bumped on any hard material but not by normal use. Since it is a cosmetic damage, as replacement of the part will be chargeable." simonoz Posted July 6, 2020 Share #14 Â Posted July 6, 2020 My 4 month old SL2 also has paint rubbing off. Looks okay though but definitely wears off fast unlike my 3 plus year old M10. Also small scratches etc... again none on my m10
Fedro Posted July 6, 2020 Share #15  Posted July 6, 2020 my 6 months old SL2 has had already rubbed off paint in places for some time (like on the wheel for example), I was also surprised but I dont mind that much personally
lenspeeper Posted August 7, 2020 Share #16 Â Posted August 7, 2020 That should not happen so fast, but Leica black paint does wear excessively at sharp edges. Aesthetics aside, they should have opted for rounded edges. For older black Leica's where there is edge wear, I found a nice easy solution on a camera restoration website and I used it with success. Order a touch up pen called "Birchwood-Casey Super Black" in flat black. I used it on a couple of older cameras and it works amazingly well. On my M240, there was a barely noticeable corner next to the viewfinder that had worn through and that spot is now gone. It is a cheap solution for those of us that don't like to see wear marks on our pricey Leica's. 3
unicorneu Posted June 29, 2021 Share #17  Posted June 29, 2021 I have the exact same issue with my display frame on the SL2. The paint rubs off on the bottom of the LCD frame. I am very meticulous about my gear and do not expose the camera to unreasonable impact or contact. As Photoworks describes above, the camera has simply been hanging on my side touching my jacket or shirt. The design of the LCD standing out rather than being flush with the body, like on the CL, was questionable in the first place. I am not surprised that this is happening, though it does not prevent me from being disappointed. It is unacceptable, that materials already wearing down after less then a year of light to medium usage. The sight of white plastic on a $6,500 camera doesn't seem right. Welcome, dear visitor! I've seen several SL2 cameras for sale on the used market with photos displaying similar paint loss in different locations on the camera. Something I don't see on the many other used camera brands up for sale. There is definitely something going on with the black paint or whatever that coating is. I didn't see any signs of this  anywhere on my Silver M10. Edited July 14, 2021 by LBJ2
