leicapages Posted February 16, 2020 Share #1 Posted February 16, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Folks, would anyone have experience with the multifunctional handgrip for the S 007 (order nr 16028)? How is the handling of the camera affected with it? Pros and cons? Worth to get? I recently saw one but could not get hold of it to test it out. However, it stated "made in China" on it and that was, also for the price, odd enough. Thanks for your thoughts.
Advertisement Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 Hi leicapages, Take a look here Multifunctional handgrip for S 007. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
John McMaster Posted February 16, 2020 Share #2 Posted February 16, 2020 I have multifunction grips on both my S2-P and S(007). They add bulk and weight, might upset nodal points on a tripod. However adds an extra battery, with the hand strap makes it much easier to handhold IMO, help to balance the camera for handholding. My S(007) grip was made in Portugal, but I doubt enough are sold to make counterfeit copies 😉 john
davidmknoble Posted February 17, 2020 Share #3 Posted February 17, 2020 I also have the grip for the S007. I use it about 25% of the time - when walking with it. I agree with John, the hand-strap and extra battery make it easy to hold. Leica told me it works fine with a tripod, but not to over tighten it. I don't use it with a tripod, just walking. It is also plastic, which is a little bit of a shame. I have the SL and the grip for the SL is full aluminum to match the body. But, for vertical grip and extra battery, its great. My two cents... SaW Posted February 17, 2020 Share #4 Posted February 17, 2020 (edited) I used it for a while but although the look of the camera was nice with it I ended selling it. Using 2 batteries was unnecessary for me and adds too much weight. Having to remove the grip each and every time the single battery (that needs to be inside the camera) had to be loaded wasn't nice. But mostly I really disliked the shutter release of the grip that is not having the same sensitivity than the one on the camera body. So unless you are constantly shooting in vertical mode and need to make 2.000 shots/day I wouldn't buy it (it was the original Leica S one I used). John McMaster Posted February 17, 2020 Share #5 Posted February 17, 2020 I do not use the vertical release on mine, I hold the camera/grip same as I would body only and use the camera release. I usually have my hand through the hand-strap and wrap the neck strap about three times around my arm (to take up slack), like this the camera/grip are supported by straps and I do not need to keep a tight grip on the camera. john

leicapages Posted February 18, 2020 Author Share #7 Posted February 18, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks to all for their valued feedback! It seems the item I got to see must have been not genuine at all if it was made in China... That said, if for the high price of the item, there are some deficiencies such as the release button and finish, plus the fact one has to remove the grip every time to replace the camera battery, that seems like a nuisance more than a help, at least for me. Guess I will no longer look for one then. Great to have such user forum here!

Stuart Richardson Posted February 18, 2020 Share #9 Posted February 18, 2020 I think it is probably worth just calling Leica customer service and asking them if they were ever made in China. If not, then clearly you have a fake on your hands...
