I got a M10M on Friday. I am more than happy... I sold my M(240) a few weeks ago as I used my SL most with M-lenses...

what a pleasure to come back to the initial M form Factor... and that amazing shutter !!

first pics look very promising, even OOC.

I was surprised to see my first pic with the camera had number 261

The camera looks new but i find a little abnormal it has 260 shots ? What do you think ?

Thanks for sharing your experience and opinion !

I think you should reset the count to zero and pretend you never saw the 261 number. 😂

Use a new SD card (or format it) - if you had any!!! pictures on the card, the camera will start with the last number saved on it +1

You will have to reset the file numbers though.... a Leica remembers the last number :)

@didier

When an M camera leaves the production facility in Wetzlar, it does not have a shutter count of 0000.  None of them ever do.

Leica gives each camera a bit of a shakedown cruise, which accounts for the shutter count of 261 on your M10 Monochrome.  That may sound like a lot of shots for a final function check before shipping the camera, but I read somewhere that every new M camera leaves Wetzlar with a shutter actuation count of 200-300.  It's very much like when you buy a new car that has 20 or 30 miles on it.

A digital M camera will easily go for 250,000 or more exposures before the shutter will need to be replaced. 261 actuations is a drop in the bucket and nothing to fret about in the least.

Yes, your M10M is new - it's not a used camera or a demo unit, unless it was specified as such by your Leica dealer.

Thanks for your answer HerrBarnack. i have no worries about it being new but was interested in understanding the 260 shots.

i just love that camera. I did wait a long time before going digital. I enjoyed my M(240) but I missed the pure and simple pleasure of my analog Ms. I am close to it now 😋

The store was probably playing with the camera or letting other customers play with it to help sell more. This happens a lot.

I typically look for a unit that has the white half circle stickers closing the outer tan box. If the outer box was closed using scotch tape it had been opened and used as described above.

This is to be expected when stores are only getting a couple of units at a time.

To add to this, when the distribution points receive their cameras, they open a few cameras and test them to ensure they were safely shipped. Leica USA does this spot check before sending cameras to the dealers in case a shipment was mishandled from Germany.

I also resisted digital until Leica dropped the M240 on us.  When we finally had a 24x36mm sensor and 24 megapixels, I thought, "Okay, now we're getting somewhere."

I too love the M10 Monochrom - in my view, it is the Stradivarius of cameras.  I'm counting the days (more like months, actually) till the FedEx guy hands me mine on my front porch. 😍
