I’m not sure that anthracite grey, as featured in the M-E is an actual colour, but a finish,  Anyway, it would need to match the gloss of the camera’s paint.  Look at how much discussion there is about black paint on Leica M2, original or repaint, despite everyone agreeing that black is the same “colour’!

Ich denke darüber nach, auch meinen Thumbie in M-E Farben zu "streichen".

Weiss jemand die RAL Farbbezeichnung von dem M-E athrazitgrau?

man! man!
sorry guys...

I am thinking of repainting my black thumbie on my M-E (Typ 220) into the camera's body color.
Has anyone of you an idea which color (on the free market) can be as close as it gets to the body color?

Like Tamiya or Prosol ...

or maybe a RAL code ...

Any hints apprciated!
cheers
Lorenz

Hi Lorenz,

Have you asked Leica customer service?

Ian,

i had them on the phone 3 years ago where i was thinking of upgrading to a M9P.

They were pretty fast in denying that conversion, as well as giving more information about the paint of the M-E.

Maybe back in the days, where everybody tried to get his M9/P a new sensor, also let some scammers surface, which tried to make money with (too)old M9s...

If they wont give you the information, have you tried comparing the colour with a RAL colour chart?

Maybe an online application can help determine the colour. I did a quick search and found this one https://finke-colors.eu/en/service/finke-ral-finder/

Best care for this case is too look up for HCB, Winogrand or just any known Leica photog. No grips, no thumbs uppers. Cameras were hold for hours, days, years and decades. As is.

I have no holding aids on my M-E.
