During the course of a recent posting that I initiated upon the subject of warranties in the USA, I expressed some doubts as to whether my Digilux 3 was going to be eligible for a passport; the accompanying small print on the application form seemed to limit the passports to R and M series equipment and selected binoculars.

I can report that I have now received my passport with 12 months cover, including change of ownership. I am a UK resident.

What is a Digilux 3 passport?

It allows you to travel worldwide and get service from Leica no matter what country the warranty is based.

IE: You are in Germany and you live in New York City. You get Leica service as if you were home.

In the USA the warranty on the Digilux 3 is three years standard with the first six months being Passport. On the M8 it's just two years standard with no Passport which is something they need to change in my opinion. On the MP and M7 cameras it is five years standard with the first three years being Passport.

That sounds like rip off Britain again. I wished we could get such lengthy warranties!
