sean_reid Posted August 9, 2007 Share #22 Posted August 9, 2007 So, as mentioned above, I just got a pre-ASPH 50 lux. Any need to get it coded or should I just stick to worrying about coding at 35mm and wider? Will be doing a combination of b&w and color work. --Lawson Don't worry about coding it until and unless you see a problem with cyan drift. You probably will not. Have you read the review of 50s? Cheers,

Have you read the review of 50s? Cheers, I did read the 50s review (very nice article btw) which was why I was leaning toward not coding however your article didn't specifically cover the pre-ASPH nor any 1.102 corner handling changes so I thought I'd re-confirm. Thanks. --Lawson
Fin Posted August 10, 2007 Share #24 Posted August 10, 2007 My 50 is the Nocti - yes it's heavy, yes it has a long focus throw & requires effort, especially at F1.0. But, boy, does it reward you!

Thanks. --Lawson I have the preASPH and it's the only lens I have not coded. While I'd like the convenience of not having to switch the menu to non-coded every time I mount the lens and have the lens info in the exif -there are no functional problems with using it uncoded. Cyan drift and vignetting are non issues with the 50. So as I really don't want to loose the lens for a month and take a chance on the focus getting screwed up I think I'll just leave it as is. In general, the need to code or not code (for cyan drift correction) varies mostly by focal length and not so much among specific lenses of a given nominal focal length. ie: 35s benefit from it, 50s don't necessarily.
