Cameras which are not serviceable anymore are usually have heaviest drop. The older camera is, the sooner it is going to be in this category.

But as photographer, I could say it sucks to make choice based on this. I have sold Canon 5D after end of service was announced, but could not find better digital EOS after it. Still thinking of getting it back.

I'd take the M262 ...to use I see it as upgrade of M9 which I use for so many years.

With M9 family ( I do use some of those including Monochrom ), always count in the price "virtual replacing the sensor" (which may come one day or not).

Peace of mind with M 262 family in this respect.

Quieter sound shutter, bigger battery life, not that thicker (as some says it) in hand,

same weight and same cut-out corner on the body as M9, etc.

As far as resale goes; I've just had a quick look and, from a quick scan here in the UK, the price of a well looked-after M9-P seems to be around the same if not actually slightly higher than that being asked for a 262 - especially the chrome version of the M9-P which was produced in smaller numbers.

I've been using an M9-P for several years now but, much as I love my 9, I've now got an M-D 262 and these days I can't think of a situation where I'd choose to go out with the older camera. I really do love the 9 to bits but the M-D is a completely different animal. If you like the simple experience of just going out with an M and looking for subject-matter then, IMO, the choice of an M-D 262 cannot be bettered.

As far as output goes then, yes, there are slight differences and, of course, there is CCD v's CMOS / 18.5mb v's 24mb to consider but, to be brutally honest, up to A3 print size no-one (IMX) has be able to tell which image was produced by which body simply by looking at a selection of my prints.

Who knows? Due to its relative scarcity the M-D might even hold resale-value better, too. Track one down (if you can find one!) and see what you think of it for yourself. You might be very pleasantly surprised!
