With my QP I could assign card format to FN button but you can't with the Q2 (which I bought this morning). Nor can you enter it in the favourites menu; it sits on top of p5 so in principle you can rapidly get there by pressing <menu> six times. Or is it better when uploading files to computer to then reformat there rather than in-camera?

I'm not sure why you think that. It's certainly on my favourites menu.

Edit: see page 149 of the English pdf manual.

Well, with my new purchase (yesterday) – and after resetting camera (this morning) – I still can only format card as described above. Options don't match up to instruction manual for FN or button with thumbwheel. Camera has I1.1 firmware. But thanks Stephen…..

Have you setup the Favorites Menu?

i don't even use the favorites menu ... 😳
I am probably one of the old fashioned guys who turn dials, press buttons or scroll thru menu to change a setting 🤔

However, i don't format my card so often that i would need to put this function on the favorites menu,
maybe some other settings i use change more frequently.

What i learned on my D800 is to make a user setting being basically the factory defaults for the reason that i won't take pictures underwater with above water settings.
Finding your self at 140ft and discover that you can't set a important setting because you have no button/dial to change it is a rather boring experience.
Like finding your self in a national park at 140ft and after questioning yourself why the monitor and viefinder is black that the lens cap is still on ... 😡

Yes. Tried everything and have now sent photos of customising options to Leica Germany for comment. Tried to re upload firmware 1.1 but camera would not allow this from Leica downloads site – just said already existing!

I struggled with this at first, too. Assigning functions to buttons is a two step process on the Q.

First, you have to go into the menu, go to "Customize Control", select "FN button" or "Right setting wheel button". You can activate up to 8 menu items (in your case include "Format").

Next, press and hold the button to which you assigned this list, let's say the FN button. Now you select from this list the item you want (in your case "Format").

Now you press FN once and "Format" will come up. The same for the other buttons.

It is confusing at first but actually quite clever; depending on the situation you can very quickly assign different functions to a button from a presorted list.
