I tried to open the top, found that I didn't have a screwdriver long enough to reach the captured bolt, then a bit of life happened and a lot of not-going-out-for-photo-walks happened.

I've started going out again for leisure, though, and decided to give it another try. Order drivers. Receive drivers. Remove top plate. Manually manipulate the follower wheel and look for signs of what's happening. Notice that the follower wheel is fully engaged through its entire travel, shifting the prism as expected. Well, that's exactly what I intended to achieve, and opening it was so easy that I figure I'll close it up and see if it works. It does work. Fixed!

I have no idea what the problem was, but opening the top plate was enough to free whatever was stuck.

This past week, I've also opened a few lenses. I have been consistently impressed with how elegantly engineered Leica's products are. A typical part has one precision surface surrounded by low-tolerance, fits-only-one-way surfaces that provide ease of assembly and repair. I find a geek's delight in these designs and have even more confidence in their durability and longevity.

Thanks for the help and support, everyone. I hope anyone who finds themselves with similar problem achieves a likewise straightforward resolution.
