Shipping my/your Camera -- How to do it?

UPS is a freight handler. Everything they handle gets treated as freight. That means at some point in its journey, your package will end up on a conveyor belt with other freight, an robotic arm will push you box off of the conveyor belt into a pile of packages headed in the same direction. If the next box pushed off the conveyor belt that is headed in the same direction is a 200 lbs wooden crate and it lands on you box...guess what happens? No. I would never ship something like this via UPS. 

 

Incidentally, DAG does good work but, you can expect absolutely zero communication from/with him until the work is complete and he asks to be paid. That means he will not let you know he's received your camera.

I’ve had packages sent to me in the last year via USPS priority insured mailed lost for up to 2 months.  Sorting machines removed, staff shortages, overworked staff, etc…my postal team regularly communicates the mess they’re in.  
 

No issues for me whatsoever shipping and receiving expensive goods via UPS.  My local UPS carrier goes out of his way to put my packages in a covered location if I’m not around. 

I regularly communicate with DAG by phone… never a problem. If he’s extremely busy, I wait to send item until turnaround is discussed; he has never let me down.

USPS isn't an option for me as I need to ship this today (and can't really get out during normal postal hours). Going to try my luck with UPS (which seems like it's more than likely completely fine). Fingers crossed!

I am sending an M10-P to DAG, and unfortunately can't get to the post office or mailing centers during normal weekday hours.

UPS stores are open on the weekend so that's my plan, until somebody says otherwise!

And as for insurance, do you guys typically insure for the full value of the camera?

Use online postage and insurance, pack well as others have stated. It is irrelevant if post office is open, they have parcel drop boxes which work fine. I've shipped lots of cameras, lenses and clocks this way....they got to their destination in good shape with no problems excepting the once i mentioned earlier.
