Michael-IIIf Posted August 5, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 5, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I visited the De Havilland museum yesterday, a place I always wanted to visit to see for their Mosquitos. But interesting as the Wooden Wonder is I was totally fascinated by the Vipers, Venoms and Sea Venoms. Imagine making a jet aircraft from wood? This is it, this is where the jet intake passes through the plywood fuselage. The engine (standing on its end) And the wing showing how the air intake connects to the fuselage. A great museum for anyone with even a passing interest in aircraft, well worth a visit. Or two. Michael

macos Posted August 5, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 5, 2007 Michael, thank your for showing this pictures. really like the details and how you captured the mood. The guys who used these machines must have been very brave, and the tale of Icarus must have been in their mind. Cheers Marcus
elansprint72 Posted August 5, 2007 Share #3 Posted August 5, 2007 Michael, Interesting set from a very interesting location. There is a school of thought which says that De Havilland kind of lost the plot when they started making all-metal aircraft.
Mark Pope Posted August 6, 2007 Share #4 Posted August 6, 2007 I was totally fascinated by the Vipers, Venoms and Sea Venoms. Imagine making a jet aircraft from wood? It's just nature's carbon fibre isn't it Fascinating pictures - where is the museum? Cheers
Michael-IIIf Posted August 6, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted August 6, 2007 - where is the museum? deHavilland Heritage Centre A great little museum, much more accessible than any of the main Imperial War Museums. Good as they are they just can't offer the same friendly intimacy and passion that these small enthusiast-run places have. The ticket seller gave me a full 30 minute history of the Mossie. Priceless. Thanks for all the comments. Michael
