Some interesting sidelights came up in this interview between Dave Etchells (Imaging-resource) and Yosuke Yamane, Director of Panasonic Corp.'s Imaging Business Unit.

see the interview here.  The gist of the story is that even though Yamane, who must have had a role in the G9, says he has been planning to move to full frame video for 7 years, the corporate strategy, after the L-Mount was selected, was to bring the L-Mount still cameras to market first in order to establish the market and make the mount a success.  That is consistent with my feeling that the S1R is a somewhat rushed and less-coherent product.  Panasonic iterates fast, so we'll see what comes next.

Incidentally, from the titles listed in the various videos, it does sound like Yamane is the boss of this as well as pro-video products.  The discussion introduced a novel business issue.  $50,000+ camera rigs are typically rented from a small number of rental houses during a shoot. So Panasonic is now exploring selling their video hybrids to lots of smaller production companies at some small cost to their rental house sales of the fancy stuff.
