arthury Posted November 6, 2019 Share #1 Â Posted November 6, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) What is going with the resale market for the M-lenses? For example, prices of the Noct-M, 21mm 'Lux are less than 1/2 of the MSRP. Over supply for a niche market?
Advertisement Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Hi arthury, Take a look here Prices of resale M-lenses. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaeger Posted November 6, 2019 Share #2  Posted November 6, 2019 I think that's a break even point after 30 years later.
adan Posted November 9, 2019 Share #3 Â Posted November 9, 2019 Guess it depends on where one looks - on Da Bay, completed listings are showing prices for the 21 Summilux at 62% to 72% of MSRP (or even higher eleswhere - 85%). Well more than "1/2". There are four different Noct-Ms (50 f1.2, 50 f1.0, 50 f0.95, 75 f1.25) - which one did you mean? (And I'm not sure how "30 years later" applies to the 21mm Summilux - it's only been around 10 years).
james.liam Posted November 9, 2019 Share #4  Posted November 9, 2019 The 21 Summilux is arguably a niche lens within a niche market segment. I've seen quite a few mint used samples for sale ~60% of the MSRP. It is large and specialized; suspect some who bought it, later had 2nd thoughts and subsequently opted later for more compact options. That may account for its 'relatively' depressed price.

It's a long-story-short answer to the OP, he seems to question why the used price dropped dramatically. Obviously the depreciation curve dropped step at first and used price goes back up with the inflation so that's why I said in 30 years later you will see today' MSRP again. Making sense?

Possibly, but the determining factor for todays prices is that which james.liam mentioned. If few people want to buy the lens, the prices at which they are sold - if sold - are not going to be high.
