Landiah Posted November 1, 2019 Share #1  Posted November 1, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Getting a 2nd lens to compliment my 50mm summicron. Better to get a used summilux or a new summicron? Which lens will hold its value better and is there anything particular to look out for when buying these lenses used, given that I can look at them in person? I could also save up some more and get the lux new.. shooting only film at the moment. Anyone have any input with these lenses and using them film vs digital? Thanks.
Advertisement Posted November 1, 2019 Posted November 1, 2019 Hi Landiah, Take a look here 35mm lens for MP used summilux or new summicron. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
spydrxx Posted November 1, 2019 Share #2 Â Posted November 1, 2019 Hi Landiah - you might want to do a search on your question...there are lots of posts on this topic. New of course gives you a warranty, used may or may not. Impossible to guess which will hold value better...are you a user or a collector? Most people view the lens not as an investment, but for the characteristics it presents in use. Do you really need the extra stop or just want it? Is size or weight a factor for you?Good luck in your choice...both fine lenses.
Landiah Posted November 1, 2019 Author Share #3  Posted November 1, 2019 Thanks for the response, I’m definitely a user but quite new to the Leica world. I suppose I’m looking for the differences in character between the two lenses, particularly when used on film.

In my opinion if you can afford 35 summilux , take one because who knows when you purchase 35 summicron you dont think about summilux lol

Herr Barnack Posted November 28, 2019 Share #6  Posted November 28, 2019 If size & weight are concerns, get the Summicron. If shallow DOF and extra low light performance are concerns, get the Summilux - if the price is right, if it is in excellent condition (pristine glass in particular), if the seller will offer you a 30 to 90 day warranty and if you know the seller to be trustworthy. If you want the Summilux and are willing to postpone your purchase till you can get a new 50 Summilux, that may be the best choice of all.
M11 for me Posted November 28, 2019 Share #7  Posted November 28, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Should you not evaluate a 28mm alongside with the 35mm? Ich would rather go for 28. But first I do not understand which Leica M you have. Is it the film-MP? Or the M10 P?
