Only recognise money... ?
they sell a product, they expect to be paid for. Not giving it away. It is not a non profit organisation. An association can be even more after your money than a for profit entreprise.

Leica seems to have problem to fulfil all outside of eurozone customers. Tax ? Import duty ? Regulations ? Who knows

Therefore the relationship with Leica is ‘love/hate’ as Leica only recognises money. Kind of like dirty love.

I hope they stay that way.

It's their only chance at remaining commercially viable, which hopefully means that they can hang around for another hundred-plus years.

I have no issues paying.

Just ask for better customer response.

Here in Italy november 5th, uk 6th, somewhere else the 7th and the 9th.
They are all events where they will show the SL2 to invited people, so my guess is that it will be presented online to everyone before the 5th... for sure not after that date.

If it is not a ‘new launch’ product, Leica will inform you when the stock is available. You only pay when you receive the goods.

Preorder is only for ‘new launch’ products which there are way more demand than supply from Leica. It happened so many times when many in this forum cry for the SL75 & SL16-35 delivery, I had my unit collecting dust in my dry case cause I received them on first batch of delivery to country as I’ve paid in full earlier right after Leica released price list and accepts ‘preorder’.

Therefore the relationship with Leica is ‘love/hate’ as Leica only recognises money. Kind of like dirty love.

Speak for yourself.  I’ve never pre-paid for a Leica pre-order, and rarely had to wait.

Good for you if that is true. Can you prove it? I can, as they issue me invoice when payment is received by Leica. Want me to show you after I preorder the SL2?

Many dealers have wait lists, for newly released and/or anticipated (pre-launch) items.  Some charge in advance, many don’t. I would never choose a dealer that did, although I’m not typically an early adopter, preferring to wait and test.

Not particularly.

Why should I prove my experience to you, and how would I do that?

I’m not doubting what happens in Singapore - I’m sure what you say is accurate.

As an overseas buyer, B&H makes me pay full price for every pre-order.  Conversely, locally my relationship with the Leica dealer and the importer is such that they have never required a deposit (I got told off for paying a deposit on my silver chrome Monochrom), and they have lent me cameras when orders were delayed (Monochrom & SL).  With the exception of the Monochrom (a one-off), I have never paid anything for any Leica equipment bought locally before delivery, including pre-orders (most recently, M10-D).

Your experience differs, that’s fine.  But don’t speak for everyone else.

My 'normal' dealer does not have a waiting list although they will send me an email when they can actually officially announce and sell the item..... and then it's first come, first served and will take a small deposit pending Leica delivering ....... which is usually quite soon after the initial announcement for the lucky few ........ invariably just one or two per dealer then a couple on months before the next batch appears.

Thankfully most main Leica dealers now actually specify if they have stock online ... and despite allegedly having 'waiting lists' often have the odd item available if you are willing to cast a wide net and hunt. I get the impression they get fed up phoning around  the 'waiting list' trying to get replies and just sell the damn thing as it is easier and quicker.

As I have an S1R and am very happy with it, I will not be heartbroken if I have to wait to satisfy my curiosity, as I doubt I will be missing anything earth-shattering....

Neither should you.  Leica Sydney required a $AUD 700 pre-order deposit on March 2nd this year for the vapour-ware 35mm-SL-APO lens.  I cancelled it 11 weeks later when it became obvious that the lens would not arrive within a reasonable time-frame.

Because of this I will never pre-order anything from Leica again.  If it is available in the store and I can handle it and buy it, then I might.  But otherwise... lesson learned.

There are more differences between our countries than just Leica pre-orders!  😀

I do not speak for all.

I speak of my experience dealing with Leica.

The retail model I refer to is the most direct linked to manufacturer (Leica) from retailer (Leica store from Singapore).

Please don’t tell me how your local pap & mom camera store stroke your bud. Unless they have means to secure new launch products faster than Leica stores world wide.

Who is missing the point?

So, you meant this statement only in relation to Singapore ...  Clearly, I misunderstood you.

"pap & mom camera store stroke your bud"?  Really?  I think I'll leave you to this conversation on your own.

But, for the record - pre-order, through the Leica dealer, of both the SL and M10-D, no pre-payment.  I guess the point is that if you read back through similar discussions on this forum with each new release since the M9, Leica Singapore and Australia seem to have tough purchase rules not required elsewhere - requiring you to buy a lens with the new camera, full payment, higher prices etc. Purchasing through Europe (Leica Store Berlin), UK and here seem to be far more amenable - that's all I'm saying.  That, and I think your criticism of Leica generally does not reflect my experience or that of others reported here - I think it is unjustified.

But, don't let me stop you.

In Paris if you are a faithful customer, you do not need to pay a down payment. Otherwise, you have to. But it can be used to buy anything else, other than the preorder camera, in case you changed your mind.
For several years, I do not need to make any pre-payment before receiving the camera or lens. I am also kinda auto enrolled in their waiting list. I can ask to be unlisted if the new camera did not suit me.
But of course only fidelity grants me these privileges.

Assuming you’re right for the Europe and US market that no need to queue, no need to lay out full payment for preorder. Then why are there folks constantly in the forum crying and stressed for not getting their hands on newly launched SL16-35 and SL Sumicrons? Are their cries justified? Perhaps they did not stroke your pap and mom camera dealer’s bud like you did?

Same in Luxembourg. I never prepaid for Leica product or another product. I would be shocked if asked for and would change shop immediatly.

I doubt if this is really an interesting subject for a serious Leica forum. In fact asian paing habits are of no interest for non asia living people. Sorry, but reallz no added value for me.
