Hello everybody this is my first time here. I bought a Leica M10 over a year ago and haven't used it much at all. Then a few days ago I was trying to take some photos but when I pressed the shutter nothing happens. All the red lights of the light meter, the menu and all are working and the battery is full so I dont know what is the problem. I have not done an upgrade in months but dont see why that would be the problem,

Any help is welcome since I will be visiting Spain for a month and want to use it there,

Thanks everybody.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

You bought a great camera

The issue you have described, can occur (but not limited to) when I forget  to take the lens cap off.

Generally firmware upgrades should be implemented soon after the manufacturer releases. Often these

updates include undocumented adjustments together with the documented fixes.

Not having the latest firmware installed is probably not the source of the problem, but could potentially contain some fix that would prevent this from happening( again). However, I would suggest trying all the well-documentd easy ways to fix it first, including:

  • taking out the battery and putting it back in
  • changing to another memory card
  • formatting the memory card in the camera
  • resetting camera settings from the menu

If the problem still persists, it would be beneficial to know a bit more about what works and what doesn't.

  • are there any errors in the viewfinder or on the LCD display when you try to take a picture?
  • does live view work (shutter opens ok)?
  • does anything happen when you press the shutter button in live view?
  • can you review any pictures taken previously in the camera (assuming they are still on the memory card)?
  • does the memory card work correctly when inserted into a computer-connected card reader?
