Phil1066 Posted September 20, 2019 Share #1 Â Posted September 20, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Was out shooting in bright conditions today and noticed a couple of smudges in the viewfinder against the sky. Thought this was sensor dust initially. Got home and checked the sensor and images, all fine. But noticed when adjusting the diopter these smudges became sharp and look like two small hairs. Anyone else had a similar issue and/or a remedy? Only had the camera a couple of weeks....
Advertisement Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 Hi Phil1066, Take a look here SL Viewfinder Dust/Fine hairs or fibres. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
elwyn Posted September 20, 2019 Share #2  Posted September 20, 2019 Yes, MeToo. My SL is about a year old and over that time a few small specs of dust have appeared behind the viewfinder, which at first I assumed were on the outside of the glass. Recenetly a larger "blob" has appeared which (like you) I presumed was on the sensor, but after a bit of experimentation I now see it's behind the viewfinder. I contacted Leica UK, and they tell me, mush asthey'd like to, it would have to go back to Wetzler for repair. As the SL and it's Lenses are my only equipment (£££), I wasnt that keen, as it would mean being without any camera for (I guess) 6-13 weeks. They didnt have a loan SL at the time, but I'm now on a waiting list for one??

Being in NZ i'm not that keen on my camera going back to Germany for an unspecified amount of time. I've only just got the thing - huh Edited September 20, 2019 by Phil1066

hillavoider Posted September 21, 2019 Share #10  Posted September 21, 2019 Bit of a wake up for me, brand new 8 THOUSAND DOLLAR camera body ONLY and has a certificate saying it’s been checked by fritz and yet there is a hair embedded in the eye res and would of been there from manufacture, I look at Leica as very over priced most of the time now

jjk Posted September 25, 2019 Share #13  Posted September 25, 2019 I had a hair in the viewfinder of my second CL.  I debated for some time whether to live with it or send it in to Leica USA in New Jersey for repair.  After 6 months of using it with the hair I sent it in.  Four weeks later got the camera back with problem solved.  It was covered under the warrantee.
Phil1066 Posted September 26, 2019 Author Share #14  Posted September 26, 2019 Thanks, yes I’m in discussion with Leica NZ & Australia to get this resolved. It has to go back to Germany for sure, but I’m not wanting to be without a camera for that time. We will see what happens.

Phil1066 Posted October 19, 2019 Author Share #17 Â Posted October 19, 2019 Just reporting back on this. Leica in NZ loaned me an M10 and 50 1.4 Lux whilst my SL was being serviced in Australia, by an authorised service agent. Leica both in NZ and Australia were incredibly helpful. Really pleased to get my SL back and no fibres in sight. Really good service in the end, very pleasantly surprised, This was my first Leica purchase. Jeff I told the Leica guys that I found it awkward and bit clunky in terms of ergonomics, even with a Visioflex. Didnt know how to pick up or hold the thing the majority of the time, so I can see why neck straps are de-rigeur, and this was indeed how I hefted it about mostly. That bottom plate too. Image quality and lens were top notch, so I can see the appeal, its just not for me.
